The mission of the Department of Pediatrics is to generate new knowledge through research, to apply this new knowledge to the highest quality health care for the prev! ention and treatment of illness in children, and to provide the best possible education of the next generation of medical students, physicians and other health professionals in childhood disease prevention, treatment, research, and advocacy. Through this mission the Department seeks to improve the lives of children in our community, nation and the world.
The Division of Neonatology participates fully in this mission, focusing its attention through patient care, teaching and research on medical problems that arise during infancy and the conditions of neonatal diseases that persist into later life.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- B.A. or B.S. degree in neuroscience, biology, chemistry, or other basic science area of study and work experience related to the job totaling at least four years in combination
- Previous laboratory experience with proficient skills in laboratory techniques and scientific methods.
- Ability to handle smal! l lab animals and conduct experimentation on small lab animals! .
- Experience with word processing and database management.
- Highly experienced in computer troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and assembly.
- Knowledgeable in Matlab, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, ImageJ, Filemaker, and quickly able to learn new programs if needed.
- Familiar with C++/C and Matlab programming languages.
- Adept in the construction of microelectronics.
- Proficient in numerous biochemical, electrophysiological, and manufacturing methods.
- Experienced with PCR, plasmid development, genotyping, sequencing, small animal surgery, neural recording, and immunohistochemistry.
- Able to communicate technical aspects of a project effectively, as well as train personnel in complicated techniques.
- Experience with delegating responsibility, supervising, and quality checking the work of student workers.
! JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- (50%) Involvement in animal experiments and using various techniques including PCR, immunohistochemistry, Western blots and others.
- (20%) Management of laboratory, including maintenance of experimental tissue and data, and ordering lab supplies.
- (20%) Participation in the preparation of scientific papers, including data and figures for publication.
- (10%) Scientific database and protocol management
