& Major Responsibilities PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for d! uties associated with scrubbing surgical cases in the Operatin! g Room.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to bend, reach, and assist to transfer up to 50 pounds
2. Ability to stand and/or walk 90% of scheduled shift
3. Visual and hearing acuity to perform job related functions
4. Demonstrate knowledge of skills necessary to provide care in the areas of communication, medication preparation, equipment, psychosocial, and growth and development for patients in all age groups.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

6. Knows and practices policies and procedures established for Surgical Services and those HealthEast policies which apply.
Standards:

7. Practices principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions to ensure that the patient remains ! free from infection.
Standards:
a. Sterile techniqu! e is maintained and standard precautions are practiced before, during and after surgical procedures; breaks in technique are recognized and corrected according to established guidelines.
b. Anticipates, prepares and sets up equipment and instrumentation to be used during the surgical procedure.
Equipment and instrumentation is correctly prepared and set up for surgical case
Surgical set-up is prepared in a timely manner to facilitate surgery start time
8. Recognizes and maintains surgical instruments/equipment to ensure proper use and availability during surgical cases.
Standards:
a. Surgical instruments are inspected for proper function prior to use and/or processing and are used appropriately.
9. Adhere to HealthEast policies related to patient safety.
Standards:
a. Accountable team member of the surgical team to initiate, maintain and/or implement patient safety actions before, during and after su! rgical procedure: IE: cautery, sponge and sharps, instrument handling. Actively participates in other safety actions: IE: patient identification and site verification, patient positioning.
10. Participates in teaching and orientation
Standards:
a. Teaches the scrub role duties and responsibilities according to established guidelines to students and employees as assigned.
11. Understands the security requirements of medications and IV solutions.
Standards:
a. Accesses medications or IV solutions only as required to perform normal job duties.
b. Complies with all state and federal regulations regarding medication and IV solution security.
12. Performs other duties as assigned
Standards:
a. Equipment is maintained and supplies are ordered on a daily basis as needed according to service line
b. Rooms are stocked and equipment is put away neatly and in a organized manner dail! y
c. Other duties are performed according to established guide! lines and time frames
Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician Program. Current Basic Life Support certification.
Certified Surgical Tech with 2 years experience working in acute care settings with OR experience and dealing with ENT and EYE cases. Regular/Temporary Status: Regular
