- Certified as MVMA/MAVT technician or licensure recognized in MN.
- Large animal handling experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of experience assisting licensed DVM's with veterinary medicine procedures preferred. These procedures to include surgeries, radiographs or emergency care Additional Preferred Selection Criteria: Excellent problem solving skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, knowledge of veterinary medicine terminology, knowledge of proper restraint and handling of small animals, strong customer service orientation, excellent technical skills.

Duties/Responsibilities
This position is responsible for facilitating daily technical operations throughout the Small and Large Animal Hospital at the Veterinary M! edical Center (VMC). Additional duties will include accurate record keeping, assisting with training of veterinary technical students, 4th year veterinary students, maintaining facilities according to the VMC cleanliness standards, ordering or stocking feed and supplies, and other duties as assigned. The specific duties and work schedule will vary based on current needs.
Provide high quality patient care throughout the VMC service areas, including:
ICU 15%
- Monitor and treat ICU patients as prescribed by clinician on flow sheets
- Perform nursing care necessary for critically ill patients.
- Participate in emergencies, including initiation of basic life support.
- Perform treatments on hospitalized equine and other large animal species
- Teach treatments to veterinary DVM students
- Provide patient care for all species
- Peform hourly treatmen! ts on hospitalized patients, including post-operative care in 24 hour a! rea
- Provide updates to clients, assist with patient visits and discharge patients from hospital
- Mentor veterinary students.
- Teach and perform small animal radiography.
- Assist with Medical Imaging office duties as needed.
- Assist with departmental supply maintenance, stocking and cleaning as needed.
- Answer incoming calls within three rings from clients, referring DVMs, and from within the VMC.
- Triage calls according to current protocols and knowledge of veterinary medicine.
- Process appropriate paperwork for new clients
- Animal history work up, premedication and induction
- Patient monitoring and maintenance, and post op recovery.
- Cleaning and setting up equipment
- Patient preparation
- Scrub in and assist in surgeries
- Pr! ovide assistance with radiographs, sample collection, catheter placement and other diagnostic procedures.
- Cleaning and maintenance of surgical suites and equipment
- Greeting clients
- Animal history work up, physical examination, and pre-surgical blood draw
- Assist with in-hospital patient care.
- Perform variety of technical procedures, including venipuncture and cystocentesis
- Submit lab tests and obtain results
