Position: Physician Assistant
Main Function
To provide quality medical care to patients both in clinic and hospital settings under the general direction of the supervising orthopedic surgeon(s).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Obtain a complete medical history and physical data on patients and review patient records
- Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed, including but not limited to x-rays, MRIs, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests
- Provide acute and chronic patient care including orthopedic exam, wellness physical exams, pre-operative interview and exam (H&P), monitoring therapies, administering injections, minor office surgical procedures, and prescribing medications.
- Operating room care includes positioning patient, suturing wounds, and manipulation of the patient and use of surgical instruments as directed by the surgeon.
- Triage patient calls and take appropriate action or refer to appropriate physician or office staff
- Be available for consult for clinical staff as needed
- Responds to medical emergencies as they present, including CPR
- Timely document patient information and care provided in patient records. Use computer to access/enter needed data. Maintain patient confidentiality
- Educates patients and families as appropriate. Provide continuity of care.
- Perform hospital rounds
- Take call per Physician Assistant Yearly Call Schedule
- Coverage of occasional sporting events, with Certified Athletic Trainers, as a part of the Sports Medicine Team
- Other duties as assigned by physicians
- Other duties assigned by department director
- Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines (OSHA)
- Compliance with patient confidentiality (HIPAA) and Red Flag Rules
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Current National Certification
- Current (or eligible for) MN Medical Board Registration
- Good communication skills
- Good computer skills
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems
- Work effectively as team member with physicians and other staff
- Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Must have flexible work schedule with the ability to work early/late as needed
- Graduate from an accredited PA education program
- Maintain National Certification
- Be eligible for registration with MN Board of Medical Practice
- Complete continued education requirements for certification and professional organizations
- attention to detail; timeliness; organization; little supervision; ability to multi-task; appropriate assessment and assistance techniques; appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace, and confidentiality methods; health information management by appropriately charting patient data; understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
