The candidate must be able to build and maintain partnerships with veterinarians in the University of Minnesota Equine Center and with our horse community. Strong interpersonal skills, team leadership skills and a desire to train veterinary students are essential. The ideal candidate would have practice management experience, strong skills in marketing and strengthening client relations as well as strong skills in organization, delegation and time management. Previous experience collaborating with specialists in a University environment is highly desirable.

Duties/Responsibilities

The position is full time clinical track at the level of assistant, associate or full clinical professor. Rank and terms of appointment will depend on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate consistent with collegiate and university policies. The successful candidate will be a strong ambulatory practitioner who is interested and capable of growing and managing our West Metro Equine Practice (WMEP).

The candidate will guide the practice's service, client outreach and teaching missions in partnership with the University of Minnesota Equine Center. The ambulatory clinician will be directly supported by a 24/7 call center, a WMEP technician (to be hired after the position is filled), and two part-time practice veterinarians as well as other CVM faculty and staff. Emergency duty would be shared among the 3 clinicians. Training of interns, residents and veterinary technicians in the practice will occur on a limited basis. The WMEP will work in close collaboration with in house veterinarians at the University of Minnesota Equine Center and be supported by numerous CVM specialties including large animal internal medicine, large animal surgery, equine rehabilitation therapy, theriogenology, dentistry, ophthalmology, imaging, anesthesiology, pathology, and clinical pathology.

Opportunities exist for the ambulatory clinician to obtain further specialty training (ABVP or ACVSMR) and expand special interest areas, depending upon interests and qualifications as well as the needs of the practice.

Program/Unit Description

The Veterinary Population Medicine Department, College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has an opening for a faculty position in equine ambulatory practice. This is an exciting opportunity to practice in the heart of Minnesota's flourishing equine industry. Our per capita horse ownership is among the highest in the nation. And our clientele are well-educated and dedicated to their horses. The caseload comprises many hunter/jumper/eventing and dressage horses as well as western performance and pleasure horses within a small radius.
