Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Physician Assistant in Orthopaedic Services is responsible for the coordination of care of orthopaedic patients. In the operating room and on the nursing units, the position will first assist the surgeon by preparing graphs, closing the incision and first and second assisting the surgeon as needed.
On the inpatient nursing unit, this position will coordinate the patients care and assist the surgeon in directing the post operative nursing care for these patients. The major functions in this environment consist of patient assessment, writing medication and treatment orders and performing, or directing specific tasks. Daily and rotating inpatient weekend rounding is expected in this position.

MINIMUM Qualificati! ons:
Education:
Completion of, and certification in, an accredited Physician Assistant program Prefer1-2 years experience in the orthopaedic surgery and clinic environment which includes First Assisting , seeing clinic patients independently
Experience:
No experience required. Prefer 1-2 years experience in the orthopedic surgery and clinic environment which includes First Assisting and seeing patients independently.
Knowledge, Skills
& Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with peers, students and other health care personnel.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritize appropriately.
Ability to document patient notes and orders using EPIC.
Knowledge of personal computers and appropriate software.
Ability to access and analyze pertinent information in order t! o make care
decisions.
Ability to First and Second assist including closing wounds, preparing graphs, etc.
Ability to apply and remove casts and splints.
Must be able to work flexible hours.
Licensure/Registration/Certification:
Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the State of Minnesota.
Physician Assistant Certification required.
