Job Description
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, MN is seeking a talented Board Certified/Board Eligible Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner. The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practiti! oner works independently, and in collaboration with physicians! and other health care professionals, and provides care to patients in an Urgent/Emergent setting for all age groups. The Mayo Clinic Health System of Austin is an integrated multi-specialty medical center with a staff of 70+ physicians serving an 80 bed hospital and busy outpatient practice. We also have clinics located in Adams, Blooming Prairie, Grand Meadow, and LeRoy, MN. The Medical Center recently completed a $28 million dollar expansion and renovation, in line with the institutional thrust to provide state-of-the-art care in Southern Minnesota.

Practice Description:

  • 70 Physician multi-specialty group including Hospitalist Program
  • 8 Clinic locations with large Physician referral base of 55,000
  • 80 bed community hospital
  • Provides patient care in the outpatient (clinical) setting by performing independent post-operative care
  • Upper & lower extremity post-operative casting & fracture casting, simple reductio! ns, splinting, injections, and non-operative care
  • Call rotation 2 out of 4 nights a week Monday-Thursday; no weekends or holidays; weekend rounding depending on census to be shared amongst NP/PA's and Physician
  • Provision of care includes comprehensive physical assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, performing diagnostic procedures & assisting in the operating room as delegated by supervising surgeon

Basic Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant training program, BS or MA. Graduate of an approved Orthopedic Physician Assistant program or CAAHEP accredited Physician Assistant program. BCLS certification required.

Other Qualifications:
Professional excellence and good interpersonal and written communication skills. One to two years of clinical and/or surgical experience is preferred.

Must have knowledge of the professional medical practice and ability to evaluate patient care. Must have knowledge of organization structure, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Kn! owledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions in order to establish safe work environment.

License or Certification:
Current state registration and current NCCPA registration with recertification testing every 6 years. Certified by NBOPA or NCCPA and maintain their certification by obtaining 100 hours of CME every two years. Additionally, must possess current registration with the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice. Special consultant specific training will be provided. BCLS certification required.

ACLS certification strongly encouraged as appropriate.
