About the role

Do you want to take on a challenging yet rewarding role, which will make a meaningful contribution to how we approach and decide on our use of new policing technology capabilities?

The Service and Strategy Group is looking for a suitably qualified and highly motivated individual to join as Manager: Emergent Technology. This role is responsible for ensuring NZ Police continues to be committed to strengthening their approach to using technology safely and responsibly. It will allow you to utilise your people leadership, relationships and strategic skills in a high profile and complex part of the organisation. With the support of the cross-Police team, you will lead the coordinated implementation of Police-specific technology capabilities and ensure one source of truth in activity is underway. This will require strategic decision-making, and oversight of various workstreams across a range of business groups.

To be successful in this role you will need to display excellent communication and relationship management skills representing Police across key stakeholders domestically and internationally; and have the ability to make and advise strategic decisions. This role offers an opportunity to step into a pivotal role that will enable you to play a part in the transformation and advancement of future-focused developments of technology capabilities for Police. We are looking for a leader who will champion cultural change, Our Values and our Kaupapa commitment as pillars for strategic decision-making.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Experience with a range of internal and external stakeholders and the development of successful partnerships.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the strategic, privacy, security and ethical implications and risks associated with new technology, and implications for trust and confidence.
  • Maintain Subject Matter knowledge of the relevant policy and priorities; and be able to provide expert advice to the NZ Police Executive on issues and opportunities that impact NZ police strategic goals.
  • Lead and manage effective engagement and decision making of the Police use of technology capabilities.

You will need:
  • Broad experience within Police operating at a senior level
  • Ability to lead and influence across multiple business groups to deliver key outputs and enable innovation
  • Experience in managing, formulating, and producing strategic advice and guidance.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, representing Police across key stakeholders domestically and internationally

Remuneration upon appointment to the role will be $154,132 - $171,258
