Job Summary:

The Prepress Specialist sets the foundation for successful printing production. This person ensures that the proper format, appearance and layout of text and images is set before the full print run is completed. The Prepress Specialist takes print or electronic files and scans or imports them into specialized software by making color, text and digital image corrections as needed. The person coordinates with the print production facilities to ensure test files meet production needs and Clarity expected quality standards. This position reports to the Production Integration Team Lead.


Essential Functions

  • Responsible for pre-flighting all production files
  • Review incoming work to determine if all elements of the job conform to Clarity’s specifications - to include review for new clients implementations
  • Perform QC checks to ensure all files contain correct elements needed for production of final deliverables
  • Identify missing/corrupt fonts and replace
  • Check files to ensure that all settings are correct including color and image resolutions
  • Correct all inconsistencies and mistakes in the art file before it is released for print at the vendor
  • Assess and sign off on proofs for all production files
  • Manage all outsourcing with vendors as it relates to artwork/logos/projects
  • Update and maintain the Callas pre-flight Profiles as they pertain to uploading of documents in the application
  • Maintain logo library for all clients
  • Maintain font library for all clients
  • Build mechanicals/templates according to specs
  • Work with the team and print vendors to troubleshoot and problem-solve issues with pdfs and/or print output.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.


Education Required

  • Associates Degree in graphic arts and imaging technology or printing and prepress technology.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience working on prepress and preflight team.
  • Certificate or diploma in electronic prepress operations or printing prepress technology.
  • Must be proficient in desktop publishing applications, specifically Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat).
  • Should be able to troubleshoot problems with artwork/pdf files.


  • Knowledge of preflight software (Callas and PitStop) and Adobe preflight profiles.
  • Good understanding of the conversion issues when using these apps across Mac and Windows.
  • Ability to create and edit CMYK or RGB images and understands pantone to CMYK conversions.
  • Good understanding on how to troubleshoot problem art files.
  • Knowledge of printing process.
