Responsibilities
- The Substance Abuse Counselor utilizes critical thinking skills in the counseling process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
- Provision of patient care is based on care management, quality/resource, stewardship, patient advocacy/customer service and role modeling
- The Substance Abuse Counselor is accountable for professional practice of counseling and participation in the interdisciplinary care delivery model
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in care management
- Demonstrates abilities as a role model
- Participates in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve patient care
- Advocates for the patient and family to support patient/family rights and needs
- Demonstrates customer service approach in care and interactions with others
- Promotes an environment that encourages individual growth and nurtures professional practice
- Coordinates client care management so that client/family needs are met
Education
- Completion of an accredited substance abuse training program and Bachelor Degree in Addiction studies or related field
Qualification/Skills
Experience
- < li> Preferred two years experience in Substance Abuse field
- Previous experience in leadership role preferred
Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of the twelve core functions
- Ability to function in a multi-disciplinary team, excellent customer service skills, interpersonal skills, time management, initiative, critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to use electronic medical record, and / or computer skills related to use of internet and Microsoft office type applications
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Rules of Professional Conduct as outlined by MN Statute 4747.1400
- Demonstrated knowledge of Rule 31, MN Rules 9530.6405 through 9530.6505
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient rights as outlined by state and federal law
Licensure/Certifications
- Current and in good standing, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, through the State of MN
- Board of Behavioral Health and Th erapy
- Board Certified Counselor through Minnesota Certification Board, Minnesota preferred
- Requirement: documented 2 years freedom from chemical use problems

M-F; 8-4:30
