This position is responsible for providing surgical patient care and related services in the operating room under the supervision of the RN circulato r to ensure a safe and efficient surgical environment.
Job Functions
- Assesses surgical procedures and patient specific requirements with the circulating nurse to ensure proper preparation of the operating room.
- Prepares and maintains the sterile operating field for the duration of each surgical procedure.
- Assists the surgeon as needed during the intra-operative procedure.
- Assists with room turnover in O.R. suites between cases.
- Performs accurate sponge, needle, and blade count.
- Assists a wide variety of surgeries including general, urology, ob/gyn, eye, plastic, cardiovascular, orthopedics, and nose & throat.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Employment Requirements
Minimum Education/Work Experience/License/Certifications
- Graduate from an approved Surgical Technician program
- Surgical Technician Certification (obtained within six months of hire)
- Current CPR certification or must be obtained as soon as possible after hire date
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous surgical experience in a hospital or similar healthcare setting
Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities
- Knowledge of sterile technique and handling of sterile equipment
- Preparation and maintenance of a sterile field
- Ability to work autonomously and as a team
- Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations.
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above.
