About the Department of Home Affairs
The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for the coordination and leadership of strategy and policy in relation to cyber and critical infrastructure resilience and security, immigration, border security and management, law enforcement and counter-terrorism, emergency management, citizenship, and the protection of Australia’s sovereignty and social cohesion.
The Home Affairs section in the Australian High Commission is responsible for supporting the delivery of Department of Home Affairs functions offshore through maintaining an immigration operations capability and engaging the Pakistan government on issues relating to border security, customs and immigration control and policy advice and cooperation on other Home Affairs functions.
About the position
Under general direction, the Visa Delegate works to established policies and procedures to assess visa applications. Working as part of a team, the position is responsible for finalising visa applications and identifying integrity issues within visa applications. The position also has some responsibility for providing advice and guidance to other visa officers.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Manage, assess, and finalise complex visa applications, in accordance with relevant Australian legislation and policy to make fair, reasonable, and lawful decisions.
- Conduct quality assurance activities, including reviewing case assessments and recommendations made by visa officers.
- Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders within the Department of Home Affairs when making decisions or escalating complex cases to senior officers.
- Prepare moderately complex written documentation for visa applicants, including the preparation of visa decision records and client correspondence.
- Perform other delegate functions under Australian migration legislation, including decisions to lawfully cancel visas.
- Accurately review and record visa outcomes and utilisation of departmental systems.
Qualifications/experience
- Applicants cannot have held, nor currently hold Pakistani citizenship or dual citizenship with Pakistan.
Applicants must have the ability to lawfully work in Pakistan.
- Professional written and verbal language skills in English.
- Desirable an understanding of the Department of Home Affairs visa processing and integrity systems.
- The capacity to interpret and apply legislation and policy to make lawful visa decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships at a working level and mentor and guide junior visa officers.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Teams.
- Prior experience in interpreting and applying migration legislation to support business decisions.

6. Demonstrated ability to interpreting and applying migration legislation and make logical decisions.
7. Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, honesty, accountability, and ethical behaviour, including the ability to identify personal conflicts of interest that arise while working in the position.
