At the general direction of the Clinic Nursing Manager, is responsible for the patient care and safety within the orthopedic department. This includes patient asse! ssment, education, medication and vaccine administration, performing of tests and procedures as ordered, appropriate documentation, and serving as the communication link between the patient, the physician and other clinic departments or agencies involved in the patientâs care. Complies with MN State law and the Nurse Practice Act.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 2 years previous RN experience required. Orthopedic experienced preferred.
Special Skills and Aptitudes: Working knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems- Allscripts and MediTech ) . Effective observational, reporting, documentation and communication skills. Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques gained through a variety of nursing experience. Completion of specific education programs as recommended by the individual unit assigned. Exemplifies self-direction with good organizationa! l, effective interpersonal, team building and relationship ski! lls. Demonstrates knowledge of properly and safely operate all equipment required for the position. Ability to systematically prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Capable of working at times under high stress. Knowledge and compliance of state and federal accrediting agencies.
License/Certifications: MN RN License. American Heart Association CPR certificate.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Patient Care
Provide nursing assessments per protocol for orthopedic department.
Perform procedures and treatments as ordered such as, but not limited to, ABI, EKG, neurometix, IV insertion.
Prepare and administer medications or vaccines according to standard procedure and as ordered by the physician or standing order.
Operate correctly a variety of pieces of medical equipment including, but not limited to EKG, tympanometer, suction, oxygen, spirometer, audiometer, nebulizer, ABI, neurometrix, wheelch! air, and exam tables.
Assist other RN/LPN/CMA staff as needed.
Perform or assist with dressing application and removals as ordered.
Instruct patient appropriately regarding prescribed therapies and preparations for ordered procedures.
Provide patient education and instructions.
2. Indirect Patient Care
Document vitals, treatments, procedures, interventions, medications, and essentials notes in the patientâs medical record according to clinic policy.
Stock supplies as needed in patient exam rooms and common storage areas.
Assist physician and reception/scheduling staff in maintaining an accurate daily schedule providing efficient patient flow.
Schedule lab tests, x-rays, consults, surgeries, hospital admission or other appointments as ordered by physician, seeing that all necessary authorizations are complete.
Call, fax or electronically send prescription refills as ordered by physici! an or standing order and document according to policy.
Facilit! ate communication between patient and physician.
Manage voicemail by recording appropriate greetings, checking voicemail, tasking messages to physician for follow up and providing timely follow to patient.
Attend nursing department meetings.
Performing a Can-Do Spirit while other duties may be assigned.

3. Prescription Refill Management
Review all refill requests for orthopedic department.
Execute medication refill standing order.
Clarify refill requests as needed with pharmacy, physician, mid level, or patient.
Utilize EHR to determine if the patient has received the appropriate labs and office visits as indicated in the standing order.
Document refill or status of refill request electronically according to CRMC clinic policy and procedure.
Review patient record in EHR as needed per policy, keep medication list current, assist in communica! tion with primary care provider on medication status.
Determine status of refill request and reassign as appropriate.
Communicate status of refill request to patient and obtain additional information as needed.
